Transcription: Johann Mendel was born in 1822 in what was then Austria. In 1843 he became an Augustinian monk and changed his name to Gregor, well it beats Fifi, and started working with plants. He wanted to understand why plants varied so much and in about 1857 he started breeding garden peas to study inheritance. Using peas with purple and white flowers he cross-bred the plants until he began to understand what was going on. And this is what he found.
